NCJW believes that federal and state governments must do more to to deter domestic violence assaults, punish perpetrators, and assist battered women and their children. To that end, NCJW has taken a leadership role in a coalition effort to secure increased support for violence prevention and treatment services as well as better criminal justice and law enforcement when crimes of this nature occur. NCJW also facilitates education, outreach, and action on this issue through StoP: NCJW's Campaign to Prevent Domestic Violence grassroots network. As part of NCJW Chicago North Shore's domestic violence initiative, we are a member of the Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education and Solutions (J-CARES) coalition.
J-CARES collaboratively creates, supports, and influences initiatives and policies to prevent, address and respond to abuse in homes, families and relationships.
In 2006, J-CARES will focus on a Domestic Abuse Training and Networking Initiative for Chicagoland Jewish agency professional staff. The overall goal of this important project is to increase the capacity of agency professionals so that they are able to most effectively address the needs of Jewish individuals and families who are affected by abuse.
